We are a friendly group of gardeners, that meet several times a year for a get together and to listen to a guest speaker

Evening events are sometimes held in member's gardens.

Our shop, where many a bargain can be found, is located in the Hollybush Lane Car Park of Willink School

and is open each Sunday from 10:00 Hrs to 12:00 Noon
(Beginning of February to End of October)

Our Next Event is a

Members Summer Social Evening

at our President's House

on Thursday the 27th June 2013

(6pm to 8pm)


Light Refreshments and Strawberries and Cream will be served during the evening.

Calling All Children

2010 Sunflower growing Competition

Edward Johnston age 9 of Burghfield Common, who attends Garlands School, is the winner of the sunflower-growing competition. 


He was presented with a certificate (which all entrants received) and a junior gardening kit by our treasurer, Mrs. Jenifer Morley, on August 22nd 2010.

Silchester Village Market


Silchester Village Hall - (near the Calleva Arms)

First Saturday of every month
10am until 12noon
  no admission fee and good free parking facilities.

Plant Sales - All plants are grown locally and the growers are available to answer any questions and offer advice concerning suitability for your location and can help track down hard-to-find speciality plants
Prices are very reasonable compared with Garden Centres and the growers are all enthusiasts.

The market has lots of other locally produced goodies as well.

Alzheimer's - Gardening for Brain

Volunteers are needed to give a couple of hours on a Friday morning to assist with a gardening project for sufferers of Alzheimers.

The project has been running for several years and provides a therapeutic social and gardening morning.

2013 Events

Open Gardens at Trunkwell, Beech Hill, Reading, RG7 2AT

Thrive’s gardens are not usually open to the public, so these days offer the chance for people to visit some fantastic gardens and find out more about how we use gardening to help people with disabilities.

We are again open as part of the NGS gardens scheme.

There is a beautiful and interesting three-acre Victorian walled garden to stroll around which includes a conservation area, Potager, Japanese garden, Secret Garden, bee and butterfly area and allotments at the rear of the garden.

Sunday July 7 - Open 2pm to 4.30pm
Sunday July 28 - Open 2pm to 4.30pm
Saturday September 14 - Open 11am to 4pm (local stall holders and children's activities)

Entrance is by suggested donation of £3.50 (£1 children aged 5-15) and plants are always on sale.
